The Blue Badge is a legal document that allows holders to park in reserved parking bays. This document is issued by Aġenzija Sapport to eligible applicants.
BENEFITS OF BLUE BADGE
Persons in possession of the Blue Badge are entitled to have the vehicle in which they are travelling, parked in public places reserved for persons with disability with the Blue Badge prominently placed against the windscreen.
Parking arrangements are the same for Blue Badge holders throughout all of the EU Member States. The Blue Badge is also recognised and can be used in Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, UK and USA.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
New application for a Blue Badge:
- Application Form and Medical Certificate. It is important that the applicant / guardian signs in the space provided. Medical Certificate needs to be signed and stamped by a Doctor.
- One (1) recent, coloured passport photo (40mm X 30mm) of the person with disability certified on the back.
- €11.50 administration fee. Exact amount is to be presented if submitting application by hand. Cash payment will not be accepted by post. Credit cards accepted.
- If one is applying on behalf of the applicant, one must also provide a copy of their ID Card.
Renewal of a Blue Badge:
- Application Form and Medical Certificate
- One (1) recent, coloured passport photo (40mm X 30mm) of the person with disability certified on the back.
- If one is applying on behalf of the applicant, one must also provide a copy of their ID Card.
No fee applies for application of renewal of the Blue Badge.
ELIGIBILITY
◆ Persons who are entitled to the EU Disability Card and have severe and permanent or temporary physical impairment.
◆ Persons with a permanent visual impairment, not exceeding 6/60 in the better eye, or who have a visual limitation preventing them from seeing from an angle of at least 20 degrees (tunnel vision) and who use a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
◆ Persons who have a severe permanent impairment who drive a car regularly.
◆ Persons who have permanent and severe physical impairment which prevents them from walking or who do so with great difficulty or for those whom any effort at walking would be detrimental to their lives on account to their impairment and who makes use of a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
◆ Persons with a severe mental impairment or who exhibit severe challenging behaviour and who require frequent assistance and/or supervision during the day and night and who use of a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
HOW TO APPLY
Those interested in applying for a Blue Badge may fill in the application form electronically or download the application form (including the Medical Certificate) and submit it by hand at the address below.
Renewal of this document is the responsibility of the holder. All individuals making use of the Blue Badge are kindly advised to take action and renew the relevant documents at least (3) three months before expiry date.
Application forms for renewal of Blue Badge may be filled in online, submitted by email on bluebadge.sapport@gov.mt with all the necessary documents attached or submitted by hand at the address below.
RENEWAL AND TERMINATION
Renewal
Should the information on the Blue Badge document become illegible, the holder should contact Aġenzija Sapport and ask for it to be replaced.
If the document is lost, the holder must present a police report to Aġenzija Sapport for a new document to be issued.
Termination
The Blue Badge is a legal document and thus, in the case of the owner’s death, Aġenzija Sapport must be informed and the Blue Badge immediately returned.
If the Blue Badge document is not returned upon informing the Agency of the Blue Badge owner’s death, two notices are issued by Aġenzija Sapport after which it requests the Commissioner of Police to collect it.
Important notice
- The owner of the Blue Badge must never give the document to friends or family members to allow them to have the benefit of the parking concessions.
- One must never make copies of the Blue Badge or change the details on such a document.
